Teacher Professional Learning

Since 2006, regular professional learning opportunities have been organised by MEC teams that involve coalition teachers learning from each other. In this way, we can cater for the needs of the individual teachers as well address overall coalition objectives.

Some recent learning opportunities have included:


Afterschool Sessions – Hosted By MEC Schools

In 2006, the MEC Lead Learner team implemented afterschool professional learning activities. For the March session, over 180 teachers attended a session of their choice, with feedback including “well presented and easy to follow – great to be able to practice as we go!”

Study Tours / School Visits

To improve the collective knowledge of innovative practices and new educational spaces, a range of school visits to Victorian, interstate and overseas schools have occurred since 2005.

Extended Professional Learning Opportunities

MEC Teachers have participated in a number of professional learning programs and activities that have also assisted the development of 21st century learning and teaching, including ‘Success for Boys’, ‘Intel – Thinking With Technology’, and ‘MEC Design Team Project’ programs.

MEC Curriculum Days

A culture of sharing and collaboration now operates that enables the MEC to provide high quality curriculum days to its coalition members. By jointly organising these events, renowned educational speakers can be accessed and teachers also have the opportunity to establish their own networks with other MEC school members. In the last two years joint curriculum days have been organised for the MEC schools, and in 2008 over 200 primary and secondary teachers attended the joint curriculum day.
